Musculoskeletal and Sports Health
Centre for Innovation in Pain and Health Research (CIPHeR) addresses the broader topic of pain and includes 4 streams that address different points along the research spectrum. Musculoskeletal and Sports Health is a particular strength of pain research at UQ and cuts across the 4 CIPHeR streams.
Mission
- To advance prevention and management of musculoskeletal and sport-related pain and injuries by embedding research in an end-to-end pathway to translation, from basic research to implementation that integrates biological, psychological, social and environmental expertise to address clinically important questions.
- To improve outcomes for people with musculoskeletal and sport-related pain and injuries by developing and evaluating approaches to precision management.
- To prevent development, progression and recurrence of musculoskeletal or sport-related pain and injuries through identification of mechanisms and risk factors.
- To evaluate treatments for musculoskeletal or sport-related pain and injuries using high-quality and innovative clinical trial designs.
- To develop and evaluate interventions to enhance physical activity participation and sports performance.
- To develop and/or refine treatments for musculoskeletal and sport-related pain and injuries based on an improved understanding of their mechanisms.
- To advance technologies to enhance research capabilities and clinical outcomes in musculoskeletal and sports health.
- To facilitate the translation and implementation of research knowledge to practice and education in musculoskeletal and sports health.
