About the Queensland Aphasia Research Centre (QARC)
QARC is a research centre.
We aim to provide solutions that improve the lives of people with aphasia.
Our vision
To do research that leads to change.
To do research that is meaningful and useful.
To work together with people with aphasia and their family and friends.
To work in partnership with:
- Support groups like the Australian Aphasia Association.
- Professional groups like the Stroke Foundation and Speech Pathology Australia.
- Speech pathologists and other health professionals.
- Hospitals and health services.
What we do
Research
We run over 40 research projects.
Our research aims to:
- Improve treatments and services.
- Use technology
- Improve mental health
- Understand brain recovery
- Find the best ways to help people.
Help people use technology
We run a service that helps people find tech that will work for them and help their recovery.
It gives advice and coaching for people with aphasia, family and friends and clinicians.
Connect people
We connect people with aphasia and family members by hosting social events.
This includes our monthly coffee group.
Support clinicians
We work with speech pathologists and other health professionals who work with people with aphasia.
We host the QARC Clinical Forum to discuss best practice and send regular newsletters.
Provide education and training
We provide training and do workshops.
We aim to improve aphasia awareness and show our work through the media.

There are 40 people in the QARC team and we are growing.
