2025 Sadie Philcox Memorial Lecture in Occupational Therapy
We are excited to invite you to the 2025 Sadie Philcox Memorial Lecture as part of Occupational Therapy (OT) Week celebrations at UQ.
Join OT students, UQ staff, alumni, and external partners at our beautiful St Lucia campus for the 2025 Sadie Philcox Memorial Lecture with Dr Jill Ashburner.
Jill Ashburner’s career in the disability sector has spanned over four and a half decades, including several senior occupational therapy positions. Her doctoral study explored the relationship between the sensory processing differences of autistic children and their emotional, behavioural and educational outcomes. Since 2007, she has been the Manager of Research and Development at Autism Queensland where her research has focused on the education of neurodivergent students, occupational therapy practices for neurodivergent people, service delivery via tele-practice, and services for neurodivergent adults including post-school transition and employment. She has had an enduring interest in the promotion of genuine self-determination which resulted in the development of a picture-based goal setting tool that enables conversations with people who find conversations challenging. Her ongoing interest in the sensory differences of neurodivergent people has also spanned over two decades and has focused on clinical reasoning and the development of a tool to enable conversations with neurodivergent people about their everyday sensory experiences
About Student Experience Events
The School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences student experience events have been designed to offer students a comprehensive and enriching extra-curricular experience.
Ranging from social gatherings and wellbeing initiatives to impactful advocacy campaigns and employability workshops, students have the opportunity to not only develop their soft skills but also foster a strong sense of belonging within the community. By engaging in these activities, students can build meaningful connections with peers, staff, and professionals in various fields, thus creating a network that goes beyond the classroom.
